James Stewart

James Stewart specialises in customer growth strategies, team building and continuous operational improvement for platforms and marketplaces. He has 20 years’ experience in growing and accelerating digital businesses at multiple life stages, from VC backed start-ups to global technology companies, and across multiple industry sectors, including e-commerce, payments, media, ticketing and transportation.
Most recently, James was Director of Commercial, Overseas & Data Services at real estate platform Rightmove, and Chief Operating Officer of two high growth VC backed businesses. As Verve’s COO, a digital advocacy ticketing business, he built out the growth plans that secured a series B funding round. As COO and member of the leadership team, James was instrumental in scaling Hailo, the European taxi e-hailing business, which is today part of Free Now.
Prior to Free Now, James spent 6 years at eBay in a variety of European & UK leadership roles including creating & leading the European seller standards programme and leading the EU pricing team who optimised what sellers were charged on the site.
He was previously the General Manager for the largest PayPal business outside the US at the time, and drove a step change in adoption of PayPal on eBay in the UK.
James helps businesses to deliver compelling & competitive customer propositions by making sure the right priorities, product, people & processes are established. He also has a passion for building teams and high performing platform organisations by focusing on great organisational design, hiring, onboarding, coaching & leadership.
James holds a MA in Engineering & Management from the University of Cambridge, UK.
